For all the Videovores who’ve been hanging out in Lunchmeat Land for an extended amount of analog-lovin’ time, you’re VHSure to recall an extensive interview with London-based Romanian filmmaker IIinca Calugareanu all about her journey to capture the incredible story of Irina Nestor a magnetic magic movement that helped provide a taste of freedom to a highly oppressed Romanian people through the power of pirated home video tapes. That’s the complete Lunchmeat coverage from 2012, found right here. Nearly 3 years later, Chuck Norris vs. Communism is finally seeing a widespread release via PBS. Its world TV premiere occurred just a couple days ago on January 4th, 2016, and is currently available to stream for free via the PBS website until January 18th, 2016. Here’s a look at the official trailer below. This film is absolutely tremendous, Tapeheads, and I highly VHSuggest you check it out as soon as humanly possible. It’s truly a fascinating and incredible story, and one that details how the agonizing and practically paralyzing hardships of communist oppression were somehow softened by the this ability to watch bootleg VHS. It provided solace for so many, offering a sense of freedom for an hour and half at a time. And it was all through the power of a few amazing people, and a VCR. And that’s pretty groovy.
